National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Public Sector Report 2016–17

The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Public Sector Report and infographics present the results from NHCDC 2016-17. These documents describe the hospital costs submitted by jurisdictions for the following activity streams: admitted acute, non-admitted, emergency department, mental health, subacute and non-acute.

The NHCDC Data Request Specifications (DRS) list the data elements to be submitted to IHACPA and include the validation rules which will be applied to the data on submission.

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the results from the NHCDC Public Sector 2016-17. The report gives a clear picture of hospital cost data submitted by jurisdictions to the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority for the NHCDC Public Sector 2016-17.

Participation

Between 2015-16 and 2016-17, the number of unique hospitals that submitted cost data to the NHCDC Public Sector increased from 343 to 451. The total expenditure submitted to the NHCDC Public Sector 2016-17 was $43.8 billion of hospital expenditure, an 8.6 percent increase from 2015-16.
