National Coding Advice

Date published: 17 March 2025

National Coding Advice are the Coding Rules and frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the new edition. These are published to facilitate nationally consistent assignment of ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in the implemented edition of ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS. National Coding Advice is published quarterly.

The publication of a new Coding Rule, or response to an FAQ, is applicable for separations beginning the following month. For example, those published on 17 March 2025 are applicable for separations from 1 April 2025.

National Coding Advice is maintained on the Australian Classification Exchange (ACE) website, a searchable database which has a list of current and updated Coding Rules and FAQs.
