Feedback invited from residential aged care stakeholders to inform pricing advice

14 August 2024

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) today released its Consultation Paper on the Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2025–26.

To support the development of independent residential aged care pricing and costing advice to the Australian Government, IHACPA is seeking input on the proposed approach, methodology and principles that will govern this advice.

All stakeholders are invited to provide their feedback to help shape the development of IHACPA’s residential aged care pricing advice for 2025–26.

In providing annual pricing advice to government, IHACPA’s advice aims to support aged care funding, including through the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC).

The consultation period is open to the public until 5pm AEST 20 September 2024.

This year, IHACPA is seeking input on the AN-ACC branching structure and funding model, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specialisation and base care tariffs, homeless specialisation and base care tariffs, residential respite care and the residential aged care pricing principles.

The consultation provides an opportunity for the aged care community to provide their input on the factors that should be taken into consideration in refining the pricing model. This will support greater alignment of funding to the costs of delivering care.

The Pricing Authority Chair, Mr David Tune AO PSM said:

Through this consultation we are committed to ensuring our pricing advice is informed by open and transparent consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and views across the aged care sector.

Mr David Tune AO PSM

‘This helps ensure our advice to government is appropriate for the residential aged care sector and represents the diversity of aged care providers and stakeholders. Public consultation is open to a range of individuals and organisations, including people receiving care and their families or representatives’.

The Department of Health and Aged Care remains the system operator with overall responsibility for aged care policy, including the funding of residential aged care services.
