National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Public Sector Report 2017–18

The National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC) Public Sector Cost Report, infographics and articles present the results from the NHCDC Public Sector 2017-18. These documents describe the hospital costs submitted by jurisdictions for the following activity streams: admitted acute care, non-admitted care, emergency care, mental health care, subacute and non-acute care.
The NHCDC Data Request Specifications (DRS) list the data elements to be submitted to IHACPA and include the validation rules which will be applied to the data on submission.
The purpose of this report is to provide an overview of the results from the NHCDC Public Sector 2017-18. The report gives a clear picture of hospital cost data submitted by jurisdictions to the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority for the NHCDC Public Sector 2017-18.
The number of unique hospitals that submitted cost data to the NHCDC Public Sector increased from 451 to 453 from 2016-17 to 2017-18 respectively. The total expenditure submitted to the NHCDC Public Sector 2017-18 was $47.15 billion of hospital expenditure, an increase of 7.7 per cent from 2016-17.
The appendix to the NHCDC Public Sector Cost Report contains detailed tables relating to the collection.
