Date published: 15 August 2015

The Independent Hospital Pricing Authority (IHPA) has released a consultation paper on the Development of the Australian Hospital Patient Costing Standards (AHPCS) Version 4.0 for public comment.

The purpose of the Australian Hospital Patient Costing Standards (AHPCS) is to promote best practice and specify approaches to hospital product costing activities that IHPA uses for:

  • Setting the national efficient price
  • Developing and/or refining classification systems
  • Developing and/or refining relative value unit scales (including service weights)
  • The production of other reports and statistical collections including the National Hospital Cost Data Collection (NHCDC).

IHPA is seeking feedback on the range of options and suggestions for the development of the AHPCS v 4.0.
