Australian National Subacute and Non-Acute Patient Classification Version 4.0

Date published: 10 April 2015

The Australian National Subacute and Non-Acute Patient Classification (AN-SNAP) is a casemix classification used for activity based funding, clinical management and other purposes.

These documents provide background to the development of AN-SNAP Version 4.0, and explain the data elements, collection protocols, reporting requirements, and how data is grouped.

The list of AN-SNAP Version 4.0 classes contained in Appendix 4 included some incorrect class codes in the Admitted Adult Rehabilitation classes. The correct codes (with the incorrect code shown in brackets) are shown in the errata document.

The Centre for Health Service Development (CHSD), University of Wollongong was commissioned by the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) to develop AN-SNAP Version 4.0. This report outlines the objectives, approach and results of the study.

The AN-SNAP Version 4.0 Grouper application groups records of admitted subacute and non-acute care into an AN-SNAP Version 4.0 class (or error class if there is missing information preventing grouping to a valid class).

In June 2022, the AN-SNAP Version 4.0 grouper was updated to accept ICD‑10‑AM Twelfth edition codes to capture diagnoses of dementia or delirium for geriatric evaluation and management care.
