Time to have your say as IHACPA releases consultation to inform aged care pricing advice

19 July 2023

The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) today released its Consultation Paper on the Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2024–25 (the Consultation Paper).

All stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on IHACPA’s proposed approach to residential aged care costing and pricing advice. In providing annual pricing advice to the Australian Government (the Government), IHACPA’s aim is to support aged care funding, including through the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding model, being directly informed by the actual cost of delivering care.

The consultation period is open to the public until 5pm AEST Thursday 31 August 2023.

Feedback from this consultation will inform the development of the Pricing Framework for Australian Residential Aged Care Services 2024–25 (the Pricing Framework), IHACPA’s key policy document relating to residential aged care and residential respite care. It outlines IHACPA’s approach to developing pricing advice for Government.

The Consultation Paper seeks feedback on a range of key issues including priorities for current and future development. In addition, IHACPA seeks to establish whether there are additional legitimate or unavoidable costs associated with the various types and stages of residential aged care delivery.

IHACPA Chair, Mr David Tune AO PSM, commented that 'the consultation will gather information from a broad range of stakeholders in relation to AN-ACC funding and determine if there are factors that are not yet accounted for.'

Feedback gathered in this public consultation process will be used to inform the Pricing Framework, which is set to be published along with the Residential Aged Care Pricing Advice 2024–25 in early 2024.

“The consultation process supports IHACPA’s efforts to gather cost and activity data to provide evidence-based pricing advice to the Australian Government.”

Mr David Tune AO PSM

Stakeholders are encouraged to have their say in the development of IHACPA’s pricing advice. Stakeholders can respond to just the question or questions that are relevant to them and do not need to respond to every question – all submissions are valuable to IHACPA.
